Enyimba, Eguavoen Part ways Following Federation Cup Ouster, Even As Controversy Rages On Over Who Dumped Who

Former super Eagles' coach Austin Eguavoen's second spell at Enyimba has hit the rocks. The Edo-born technical adviser has been placed on indefinite suspension, says club supremo, Felix Anyansi Agwu.

The chairman cited Enyimba's poor run recently and anti-club activities as reasons why the club management wielded the big stick.

Last Monday, the two- time African Champions were booted out of the Federation Cup in Nigeria (FA Cup) by less fancied Prime FC of Oshogbo, going down 2-0.

Many of the clubs ardent supporters are yet to recover from the shock.

Chief Agwu also disclosed that Eguavoen failed to resume work after the team's Fed Cup exit "which showed his lack of commitment to the club".

Before this latest development, the club management had already announced that the technical crew and players have been placed on half salaries.

Chief coach, Abdu Maikaba,  has been saddled with the responsibility of prosecuting the remaining four matches of the 2012 Nigerian Premier League and possibly picking a continental ticket.

The people's elephants are presently 4th on the table, with 52 points from 34 matches. They trail Enugu Rangers, Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars.

'Cerezo' has become the second casualty of this year's Federation Cup after Coach Tunde Sanni was shown the exit door by Kwara United following their round of sixteen exit.

Eguavoen Fires Back: "I Resigned"
Meanwhile, the former Nigeria U-23 gaffer has come out to declare that he had already tendered his resignation before the club chairman announced his suspension.

Hear the embattled coach in a report carried by 'The Nation' on Friday, "SportingLife on Thursday carried a report of the placing of Enyimba's players on a half salary. Before now, the players were being owed huge sums of money and that has been our biggest problem. It is the reason the boys are not giving 100 per cent commitment. At times, we train with four or five players and the management knows about this but we have always been managing the situation because it is not proper to wash our dirty linen outside".

" When you now place these same players on a half salary, how do you get the best from them? That was why this afternoon I turned in my resignation letter but I heard he (Anyansi) is not in town. Maybe they have already told him about it (my resignation) and maybe he wanted to be smart and tell the whole world I was suspended when in fact I had resigned. Does that make sense? He gave us papers that we have been placed on a half salary and there was nothing like I had been suspended there. But because I had resigned he wanted to quickly tell the world that they suspended me."

So who do you think is trying to be smart here?
